Robin Roberts' mother dies the same day she exits GMA - Examiner.com

The Good Morning America host said goodbye to her TV network Thursday. Robin Roberts left the studios a day earlier than planned so she could spend time with her ailing mother. The same day she exited GMA, Robin's mother, Lucimarian Roberts passed away.

Robin was able to see her mother before she died yet the loss seems so tragic.

About to begin bone marrow treatment for her cancer, Robin Roberts is facing life's biggest struggles. Her family needs prayers.

Dealing with loss of any kind is difficult and the timing of this loss seems so unfair. Yet for this woman of faith, God has a plan.

Dr. Maya Angelou has said, "Being the daughter of a phenomenal mother, I know Robin Roberts became who she is because she is the daughter of Lucimarian Roberts."

When trials in life arise, there is a blessing coming.

Robin Roberts, 51, was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome in April, five years after her battle with breast cancer. MDS is a disease of the blood and bone marrow and was once known as preleukemia. Roberts said her doctors told her she's going to beat this. Her sister, Sally-Ann is a perfect donor match for her bone marrow. Standing by her side, Sally said they would ride this journey together.

These three women of faith have increased the power of God in their lives by trusting in the Lord in all circumstances.

Lucimarian Roberts was an enthusiastic follower of God. She desired to know Him. She placed her trust in Him. In her memoir, My Story, My Song: Mother-Daughter Reflections on Life and Faith she inspires others as she attributes her strength, power and success to the many people God placed in her life.

The mother of GMA host Robin Roberts faced poverty, racism and many of life's struggles with integrity and grace. Lucimarian's husband, Col. Lawrence E. Roberts, was a member of the all-black Army Air Corps unit known as the Tuskegee Airmen. He died in 2004.

Lucimarian Roberts sang hymns as a form a prayer. The prayer she taught her children is now available on a wrist bracelet that Robin Roberts proudly displays. Along with Robin's initials, RRR, the words on the bracelet state, "Light, Love, Power, and Presence."

These words represent the prayer her mother taught her, "The light of God surrounds me, the love of God unfolds me, the power of God protects me, the presence of God watches over me, wherever I am, God is."

The wristband represents a prayer for protection and it becomes more meaningful today with the passing of her mother.

To say Robin has had her share of trials is an understatement. In the public eye, people see Robin's trials but they also recognize her faith. Robin took medical leave from GMA. She will undergo treatment for MDS while she grieves over her loss.

Robin Roberts is a remarkable woman just like her mother, Lucimarian.

Lucimarian Roberts' memoir, as told to Missy Buchanan with reflections by Robin Roberts, is now available at local libraries as well as Amazon.com and other places where books are sold.

"This book must be read by every woman who wants to raise a daughter who dares to face life fully with enthusiasm and an adventurous spirit," said Dr. Maya Angelou.
