Israeli-Arab woman said to be 124 dies

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- An Arab-Israeli woman said to be 124 years old has died.

Mariam Amash, who was listed in Israel's population registry as being born in 1888, died on Saturday at the Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in the Israeli city of Hadera, Ynet news reported. The age listed in her national identity card was based on a birth certificate issued by Turkish authorities. The birth year was never officially confirmed; if it had, she would have been the oldest living woman in the world.

Amash had 10 children and some 200 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, according to Ynet.
