Koh Brothers: Two conditions before work at DTL Bugis station resumes - 19Jul2012

SINGAPORE - Construction work at the Downtown Line (DTL) Bugis Station will resume once two conditions are satisfied, said Koh Brothers Group in its first public statement since an accident at its worksite on Wednesday resulted in two workers killed and eight injured. The two conditions are: a professional engineer has to endorse a recovery plan for the safe removal of the collapsed structure and materials, and a revised Risk Assessments and Safe Work Procedures must be submitted. The statement, signed by Managing Director and Group CEO Koh Keng Siang, was released at 5.07pm on Thursday via SGX. The project is a joint venture between Soletanche-Bachy and Koh Brothers. On Wednesday morning, temporary scaffolding used for the construction of the DTL Bugis Station subway link roof slab gave way as wet cement was being poured. Investigations are currently being carried out by the Ministry of Manpower and the Building & Construction Authority. All works relating to two areas at the worksite, namely formwork and concreting, have been suspended until two conditions are satisfied, said Koh Brothers in the statement. "The Board wishes to express Koh Brothers' heartfelt sympathies to the families of the two Chinese workers employed by its sub-contractor. Koh Brothers will work with its subcontractor to devise some welfare measures to assist the affected workers and their families," the statement said.
