Two killed, seven wounded in shootings overnight - Chicago Sun-Times

Two men were killed and at least eight people were wounded in shootings across the city from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning.

The first fatality occurred at about 12:20 a.m. Wednesday in the North Lawndale neighborhood, according to police.

Victor Coleman, 32, was shot multiple times in the 1200 block of South Kolin Avenue by a person who stepped out of a gangway, according to officials. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

About an hour after Coleman was shot, Quincey Simmons, 18, was killed when someone fired a handgun into a crowd gathered in the 1000 block of North Lawler Avenue, authorities said. Simmons was shot in the torso and was dead at the scene, police said.

Another 18-year-old man was wounded in the same shooting, police said. He was hit in the thigh and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in good condition.

A 16-year-old was among those injured during the night's shootings, police said.

The teen was shot in the hip in the 8800 block of South Wood Street about 9:44 p.m. Tuesday, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in "stable" condition.

A 20-year-old man was shot in the 0 to 100 block of North Kilbourn Avenue about 12:20 a.m., according to police. A person attempted to rob him, then shot him as he ran away.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in "stable" condition, police said.

A man waiting for his girlfriend in his car in the South Chicago neighborhood Tuesday night was shot multiple times, police said.

Two people began shooting at his car, parked in the 8400 block of South Mackinaw Avenue, police said. The man, 26, was taken in serious-to-stable condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

A man, 38, was shot at 3:39 a.m. in the 3800 block of South Ellis Avenue, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, though his condition was not immediately known.

At 10:32 p.m. Tuesday a 24-year-old man was shot near the intersection of West 56th Street and South Bishop Street, police said. He was shot twice in the back and was taken in "stable" condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Police had two people in custody for the shooting.

Just over 30 minutes later in the same neighborhood, two men were shot in an attempted robbery. A 38-year-old man was shot in the hip and a 37-year-old man was shot in the buttock in the 6400 block of South Hoyne Avenue at about 11:05 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Both were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in "stable" condition, police said. Four people are in custody for the shooting.
