Pastor AB Schirmer found guilty of killing second wife | Pennsylvania Pastor convicted of murder STROUDSBURG - Former Lebanon County pastor Arthur "AB" Schirmer was found guilty Tuesday of killing his second wife and staging a car crash to cover up the crime in 2008 in Monroe County. The jury deliberated for less than 90 minutes Tuesday afternoon before finding Schirmer guilty of first-degree murder in the July 2008 death of Betty Jean Schirmer. Schirmer is scheduled for trial in March in Lebanon County on charges that he killed his first wife, Jewel, here in 1999. The former pastor was accused of staging a car crash on Route 715 in Pocono Township to cover up the fatal head injury he inflicted on Betty Jean. An associate pastor at Reeders United Methodist Church at the time, Schirmer said he was driving Betty Jean to the hospital for jaw pain when he swerved to avoid a deer and crashed into a guide rail, causing her to hit her head on the windshield. Schirmer, 64, who will be sentenced in March, stood silently in court, leaning forward with his fingertips resting on the table, head leaned slightly to the left and woefully downcast eyes as the verdict was read. The family of his second wife, Betty Jean Schirmer, let out joyful cries and hugged each other at the reading of the verdict.
