Pilot killed in fiery US air show crash

A pilot was killed when his Soviet era aircraft plunged to the ground and exploded in a massive fireball at an air show in the United States. The accident occurred at the annual 'Quad City Air Show' in Davenport, Iowa on Saturday afternoon, NBC reports. Spectators screamed as the L-39 jet, made in Czechoslovakia in the 1960s, plummeted to the earth while performing a complicated manoeuvre with two other jets. The aircraft crashed in a field by the side of a highway, creating a huge fireball that could be seen from kilometres away. The pilot has been named as Texas resident Glenn Smith, who was the CEO of the plane's owner, Warbird Education. Local police and federal authorities are combing the site of the crash to try to determine what went wrong.
