Bailey Cooper, the swim team captain at Foster High School in Fort Bend County, is being remembered this week as an outstanding student who brought joy wherever she went.
The 17-year-old senior died April 17 in a car accident near her school at 4400 FM 723 in Richmond.
Visitation for Cooper is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Sugar Land Baptist Church, 16755 Southwest Freeway in Sugar Land.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, also at the church.
"She was beautiful inside and outside," said Gene Tomas, her school principal. "She truly left her imprint at Foster High school. Foster High School is a better place because of Bailey Cooper."
Tomas said he got to know Cooper and her whole family during her freshman year through her participation on the school swim team.
"You didn't take long to notice her because of her smile," he said.
This school year, Cooper was Tomas' office aide during third period.
"Every day she was welcoming, smiling, doing whatever she could do to help anybody - students and staff," Tomas said. "The whole staff, and students, would say the same thing."
The Rev. Lance Williams, a pastor at Grand Parkway Baptist Church where Cooper attended, said she loved going with her family and other church members on mission trips to the border area.
"We would go and serve and minister to people," Williams said. "She was always right there. I remember her being in the middle of things."
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Cooper died at 3:50 p.m. April 17 when her 1991 Toyota 4Runner collided head-on with a Mack dump truck.
She was northbound on FM 723 at Beadle Lane that rainy afternoon and for some reason swerved into the southbound lane, according to the DPS report. The truck driver attempted to avoid the accident, the report stated.
Cooper is survived by her parents, Gary and Desiree Cooper, and her younger brother, Cody Cooper.
