A 7.6-magnitude quake struck off the eastern coast of the Philippines late Friday. According to the US Geological Survey, the quake hit at a depth of about 34 kilometres, and was centred about 106 kilometres east of Samar Island. At least one person was killed in a house collapse, and power was knocked out in several cities. Tsunami warnings were originally issued for several countries, including Japan and for Pacific islands as far away as the Northern Marianas, but all the warnings have been lifted. The warnings have sent coastal residents fleeing to high ground. The Philippine seismology agency says waves of about 16 cm hit South Philippines and higher waves could arrive. | From: ZazaNews1 Views: 0 0 ratings | |
