I formed my opinion of Mr. Rivera way back in the late 1980's when The Geraldo Show first appeared on daytime television, hosted by Geraldo Rivera himself. In fact, I was actually watching the show in which his guest were a White Supremist group which turned into unexpected mahem on live television. During that day's broadcast, a small riot insued in front of the cameras and Rivera was seen being hit in the face with a chair, which resulted in his nose being broken. This to me was trash entertainment television, presented specifically to a certain segment of the viewing audience, a type of viewer which I am not.
My dislike for Mr. Rivera's form of sensationalism in news reporting, increased with his reporting during the Invasion of Kuwait. During combat operations, he knowingly and deliberately broke the imposed restriction rules placed on reporters and broadcast the exact position of the military troop detachment to which he was assigned. By doing so, he put those soldiers and himself in direct physical danger and the military command's attack secrets in jeopardy of exposure to the enemy.
However, and to the point of the issue, as the author of this article stated, I have never found Mr. Rivera to be dishonest in his news reporting. Neither have I found him to be subject to any bias in political issues which he investigated and/or reported upon.
To be totally honest, I was suprised when he was hired by the Fox News Network, first as a War Correspondant and then as the network's New York based investigative reporter. I say this since he is an extremely dogmatic investigative style reporter in getting to the crux of whatever story he is assigned to report on. His personal style and type of indepth investigative reporting is not something Fox News is known for in it's reporters. Fox, being a news agency which employs mostly reporters who are conservative and thereby politically biased. For the most part, reporters who are prone to report news only in a form which is favorable from a conservative's point of view.
It's refreshing to hear a Fox News Reporter, being truthful and non biased on a political issue. The only problem being, all Liberals knew the real story to begin with and the indoctrinated Conservatives will never listen to anything counter to conservatism, no matter who says it or what source it comes from. Geraldo will without a doubt, be chastised for his reporting and labeled as a turncoat and a liar. (So much for truth in journalism)
