The names of two women who were shot and killed Friday night in a home on Detroit's west side -- allegedly by their relative -- have been released.

Geraldine Bates, 68, died of a gunshot wound to the torso, and Santangela Williams, 49, was shot in the left arm, an official with the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office said Sunday.

Police say Ferdarius Shine, 28, of Detroit had been suffering from mental issues and began firing shots in the 13500 block of Winthrop, killing his grandmother and aunt.

Shine also is accused of shooting his 7-year-old daughter. She was listed in critical condition Sunday evening, officials said.

No charges have been filed in the case, a spokeswoman for the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said Sunday.

Shine turned himself in to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation Saturday. He was in a hospital Sunday as a patient and prisoner, police spokeswoman Sgt. Eren Stephens said. No other details were released.

Family members of Shine and the two women declined to comment when reached Sunday by the Free Press.

Teen hurt in robbery try to be tried as adult

Authorities say a teenager wounded during the attempted robbery of a Detroit high school girls' basketball coach will be tried as an adult on two felony charges.

The 15-year-old was told at a hearing Saturday that he faces one count each of armed robbery and assault with intent to rob while armed. He is to appear before a judge March 1 and is being held at a juvenile detention facility on a $50,000 bond.

Prosecutors say the teen and Michael Scott, 16, accosted 70-year-old Ernest Robinson on Feb. 1 while he was walking outside Martin Luther King High School with two of his players. Robinson fatally shot Scott and wounded the other teen.

Authorities said last week that Robinson acted in self-defense and won't be charged. He's a reserve police officer.
