| Amateur video uploaded to the internet claiming to have been filmed on Sunday (January 13) purports to show the Syrian village of Deir Sinbul in Idlib province coming under heavy aerial bombardment from government fighter jets. Deir Sinbul is famous for its Roman and Byzantine ruins. One clip purports to show a Syrian jet flying overhead, shortly before a large explosion is seen in the distance. Plumes of fire and smoke can be seen rising from the targeted building. Another video purports to shows dozens of panicked locals running around an area which has recently come under attack. Badly damaged buildings can be seen, as well as thick black smoke rising in the distance. Despite advancing in Syria's north and east and winning support from regional powers like Turkey and Saudi Arabia, the Syrian rebels have been unable to break a military stalemate with government forces elsewhere. They have struggled to counter government air power in particular, making it hard for them to take and hold territory crucial to Assad's grip on power, including major cities. The United Nations claims at least 60000 people have been killed, and over 600000 Syrians have fled abroad - many to neighbouring Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan - as violence has spread and international efforts to find a political solution have sagged. | From: TheGeni001 Views: 0 0 ratings | |
