| The Chicago Fire Department has confirmed that the casualty following a Southwest Side house fire has been identified as Fire Captain Herbert (Herbie) Johnson. He was 54 years old. Fire Captain Johnson, along with another fire fighter, were injured after a flash over fire ripped through a two-story home in Chicago's Southwest Side earlier this evening. The attendants of that home were alerted of the fire when they spotted smoke from the kitchen window, prompting everyone to evacuate. During the firefighting, FR Johnson and another firefighter, had become trapped inside the home as a result of the flash over fire. Both individuals had had to be rescued. FR Johnson was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center while the other firefighter was taken to the Advocate Christ Medical Center. Johnson had passed away from his injuries after arriving at the hospital. The other firefighter is recovering from his injuries. FR Johnson was a 33 year veteran of the CFR and had recently been promoted to Captain last summer. www.chicagotribune.com | From: TomStick91 Views: 19 0 ratings | |
