| More than 60 prisoners killed during jail riots in Venezuela. Full Story: More than 60 prisoners have been killed during riots in a Venezuelan jail, according to local media. Now family members are gathering outside the prison, demanding authorities provide more information. [Jose Miguel Alvarado, Relative of Prisoner]: (male, Spanish) "We want them to make a statement about the deaths that occurred. We want a list of the fallen and we want a list of the injured. We have a list here, but it does not include all the injured. Those aren't the only deaths that happened. We want the government to give us an answer. If they do not give us an answer, we will take action on the streets." Authorities say the violence was sparked by clashes between rival gangs, and escalated when security forces attempted to calm the situation. Many Venezuelan prisons are controlled by armed gangs, and riots are frequent. The prisons are also notoriously overcrowded. Advocacy groups say Venezuela's 34 prisons hold 3 times the number of inmates they were designed for.
