Mexico Gunfight Kills Eleven

Violence is on the rise in the Mexican state of Guerrero, as ten suspected drug gang members and one soldier are killed in a gunfight. Full story: Violence is rising in the Mexican state of Guerrero. The following footage contains some graphic images. Ten suspected drug gang members and one soldier died in a gunfight on Wednesday, after an armed group ambushed soldiers. It is not yet clear which criminal organization the attackers belonged to. Guerrero, a poor state home to beach resort Acapulco, is one of the worst hit areas for warring drug gangs. Last year, military reinforcements began to restore order, but now the violence is returning. In August alone there were 225 murders in the state. Corruption is also rife - 18 local police were arrested on Monday on suspicion of links to organized crime. In the past 6 years in Mexico nearly 60000 people have been killed as drug gangs fight each other as well as security forces. Reducing this criminal violence is one of the biggest challenges awaiting Enrique Pena Nieto, who will replace Felipe Calderon as president of Mexico on December 1.
