 | What should have a joyous occasion for all turned into a nightmare in Philadelphia on Sunday. NBC 10 reports that a wedding at the Sheraton Society Hill hotel turned into a free for all as 75 to 100 people brawled. Police say members of one wedding party were already fighting when another wedding party was arriving at the hotel. A member of the second wedding party was hit sparking a drunken brawl that took dozens of police to break up. At one point the police became outnumbered and had to call for backup. One 57-year old man suffered a heart attack and later died at Jefferson Hospital. He was the uncle of the bride. He was not involved in the fight. The fight was caught on tape by 15-year old Max Schultz, who was at the hotel celebrating his 15th birthday. "I was up on the second floor watching. It was bedlam, out of hand." Schultz said. Two people were arrested for disorderly conduct and one person was arrested for assault on a police officer. Other arrests could be made after police review the videotape. The hotel issued a statement in response to the brawl. "We continue to cooperate with the authorities and as this is an on-going police investigation any questions should be directed to the local police department. Atascocita firefighter dies after weekend training - Houston Chronicle
An Atascocita volunteer firefighter has died from heat-related injuries sustained during weekend training in Beaumont that also hurt a Georgia fireman.
Capt. Neal W. Smith, 46, passed out Sunday at the conclusion of a "smoke diver" session at the Beaumont Emergency Services Training Complex. He was rushed to Christus Hospital - St. Elizabeth.
He died Monday of heat exhaustion, according to Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department spokesman Anthony Turner.
Beaumont's KBMT (Channel 12) reported on its website Monday that Smith and 34-year-old Otis Alford were injured in separate, unrelated events, according to Dennis Gifford with the East Texas Firemen's and Fire Marshals' Association. Both firefighters received immediate treatment by paramedics on standby for the intense training.
Alford was near recovery at a hospital Monday morning, according to the television station. He was not listed as a St. Elizabeth patient late Monday.
Turner said he did not have details about what went wrong in the training or how Smith was overcome by heat.
The training, offered by the East Texas Firemen's and Fire Marshals' Association, is an advanced survival course designed to help firefighters and their crews emerge from interior structural infernos alive, according to the course website. The two-day session is described as "extremely challenging, intensely physical and will take the student to his/her limit. Because of the difficulties some may experience, paramedics are on hand to monitor students before, during, and after each exercise."
Gifford said symptoms of heat illness can emerge quickly.
"We as firefighters have to become more aware and put our pride away and be willing to understand we are human," Gifford told the station. "We just need to become more in touch with our physical capabilities."
Smith, who was Station 1 captain, had been with the department for five years and previously served on the Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department's board of directors.
"He was the hardest working guy I ever met," said friend and fellow firefighter David DeMartino, adding that Sunday's exercise was another example of Smith going the extra mile in all aspects of his life. "He had gone to better himself as a firefighter."
Smith was a district manager with the Zale Corporation. He leaves a wife and two elementary-school-age children, department officials said.

US Teen Dies After Taking Hallucinogenic Drug, Ayahuasca, in Peru - TIME
Drug tourism is not rare to parts of the Peruvian rainforest, where travelers from North America and Europe come to sample the supposed healing qualities and hallucinogenic effects of ayahuasca, a traditional herbal medicine.
For Kyle Nolan, an 18 year old from northern California, the trip was fatal. He has been found dead after reportedly consuming the hallucinogenic drug in a ritual at a retreat in Peru.

Peruvian police confirmed on Wednesday that the young American had been found buried on the property of the spiritual retreat of the Shimbre Shamanic Center, where he took the drug on Aug. 22. It sits about 530 miles east of Lima in the Madre de Dios jungle, based in the Peruvian Amazon basin that borders Brazil.
The shaman who led the ritual, Jose Manuel Pineda, has been arrested along with two other men after confessing to have buried Nolan. Pineda, who is also known as "Maestro Mancoluto", told authorities that the teen died as a result of exceeding the dosage of the hallucinogenic brew.

Nolan's body was reportedly found the morning after a ceremony at the Shimbre Shamanic Centre, which has its own website advertising the trance-like effects of ayahuasca. His family raised the alarm and launched a media appeal after he failed to return home on August 27.
Ayahuasca literally translates from the Quechua language, spoken in Peru and other Andean countries, to 'vine of the dead', or 'vine of the soul.'
Amazonian Indians have long been taking the drug, which is derived from the ayahuasca plant. It is taken as a brew that is comprised of the ayahuasca vine, tree bark and other plants.

The plant contains dimethyltryptamine, DMT, which is outlawed in the U.S. It is often likened to LSD, and the trance-like state that users enter is said to be one of psychological introspection – hence not always an enjoyable experience. In fact, side effects include severe vomiting and diarrhoea, which is why users sometime refer to it as 'the purge'.
The allure of the drug, which is typically consumed as part of indigenous ceremonies run by a shaman, has attracted tourists to this part of South America keen to experience its trance-like qualities.
Some of its more famous users in the West include musicians such as Tori Amos and indie bands such as the Klaxons. Sting has said in a Rolling Stone interview that it's not a drug "you're going to score and have a great time on."

OAK CREEK, Wis. — An unidentified gunman killed six people at a Sikh temple in suburban Milwaukee on Sunday in a rampage that left terrified congregants hiding in closets and others texting friends outside for help. The suspect was killed outside the temple in a shootout with police officers.
Police called the attack an act of domestic terrorism by a suspect federal authorities described as a white man in his 40s, but neither provided further details or suggested a possible motive, including whether he specifically targeted the Sikh temple.
"We never thought this could happen to our community," said Devendar Nagra, 48, of Mount Pleasant, whose sister escaped injury by hiding as the gunman fired in the temple's kitchen. "We never did anything wrong to anyone."
Late Sunday, the investigation appeared to move beyond the temple as police, federal agents and the county sheriff's bomb squad swarmed a neighborhood in nearby Cudahy, evacuated several homes and searched a duplex. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agent Tom Ahern said warrants were being served at the home of the gunman.
"He did not speak, he just began shooting," said Harpreet Singh, relaying a description of the attack from the wife of his uncle, temple president Satwant Singh Kaleka.Singh said Satpal Kaleka told him she was in the front room when the shooter walked in. She said the 6-foot-tall bald white man — who worshippers said they had never before seen at the temple — seemed like he had a purpose and knew where he was going.
Oak Creek Police Chief John Edwards said police expected to release more information Monday. He said the FBI will lead the investigation because the shootings are being treated as domestic terrorism, or an attack that originated inside the U.S.
"While the FBI is investigating whether this matter might be an act of domestic terrorism, no motive has been determined at this time," Teresa Carlson, Special Agent in Charge with the agency's Milwaukee division, said in a Sunday night statement.
During a chaotic few hours after the first shots were fired around 10:30 a.m., police in tactical gear and carrying assault rifles surrounded the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin with armored vehicles and ambulances. Witnesses struggled with unrealized fears that several shooters were holding women and children hostage inside.
One of the first officers to respond to frantic 911 calls seeking help was shot several times as he tended to a wounded victim, and was in critical condition along with two other victims Sunday night, authorities said. Police said the officer was expected to survive. Continued...
Palestine: Mass funeral cries out for killed protester
 | Hundreds turned out in the West Bank village of Fuwar for the funeral of Mahmoud Titi, the Palestinian man fatally shot by the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) on Tuesday. A vocal funeral procession swept along the streets, carrying his body through the village near Hebron where the incident took place. Titi died after a clash between Palestinians and the IDF at the entrance to the al-Pawar refugee camp, with IDF soldiers using live ammunition in response to rocks and Molotov cocktails they say were thrown at their vehicles. Two other Palestinian men were also shot, with Titi sustaining injuries that he later died of in hospital. IDF troops maintain that they only use live ammunition when they deem the situation life threatening. However, tensions are currently high in the area, with the fatal shooting of 22 year-old Titi being just one in a string of violent meetings with the IDF and Israeli settlers over the past few weeks. In February the death of 30-year old Palestinian Arafat Jaradat, while in an Israeli prison sparked mass hunger strikes and nationwide protests. The Palestinian Authority is demanding an international inquiry into Jaradat's death, which has been dismissed by Israeli authorities. President Barak Obama, is set to visit Israel next week. Shark dies in Kmart commercial shoot in Van Nuys backyard pool - Los Angeles Times
An investigation is ongoing into the death of a shark that was shipped from New York to L.A. and placed in an above-ground pool in a Van Nuys backyard for a Kmart commercial shoot.
The 5-foot-long white-tipped shark died March 6, according to a letter sent to the American Humane Assn., the nonprofit group responsible for the "No Animals Were Harmed" certification listed in movies.
The shark was injected with adrenaline and received oxygen from a trainer after it showed signs of stress, and later removed from the pool and taken to a specialist in Long Beach. The shark died that afternoon, the complaint said.
As The Times' Richard Verrier reports in Company Town, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has criticized AHA for the incident.
"Sharks are sensitive animals who, in captivity, require a highly specialized and controlled environment,'' Julia Gallucci, an animal behavior specialist for PETA, wrote in a Tuesday letter to an association official. "Given the delicate nature of this species, why would the AHA approve the transport and use of the animal?"
Citing a "whistle-blower" who worked on the commercial, Gallucci said in her letter that the production company, Boxer Films of Los Angeles, had recommended against using a live shark. When the animal died, Kmart asked that a second shark be brought on set, but the production company refused and replaced the animal with an animatronic hippopotamus, Gallucci alleged in her letter.
Jody Frisch, spokeswoman for the AHA, said the group had asked a third party to investigate the circumstances of the shark's death. Although AHA reviews scripts and make recommendations on how animals are used in productions, she added, it doesn't make "decisions about what animals are used, nor do we have jurisdiction over their transportation."
A spokesperson for Kmart parent Sears Holdings said it too was investigating the shark's death.
