2010 Ford Escape CPO Dies During Test Drive

Ford was trying to close hard the night before but we didnt have time. Went home, did a little research and found owners complaining of transmission problems at low mileage. Next morning, I told the sales agent my findings and was a little too concerned to close on this vehicle without more research. After the wife unit drove it (who I was buying for), we rolled down the windows and gunned it. Great torque up to 50. Now for the insterstate. Good torque initially, then transmission couldnt decide - shift up? down? not sure. I looked over at the sales agent. It relectantly shifted up and continued. Felt a clunky shift also before hitting 50mph. No more power after 50, just a slow acceleration. Even with mashing the peddle to the floor. While pulling off the next exit, stopping at the light, and discussing the poor results. It died! It would start back up but could not idle by itself. With family (two kids) - we opted to wait for an assist from the dealership. Whatever caused it to die (could have been fuel injection) may also have impacted what I had earlier interpretted as confirmation of the transmission problem. I remember reading other complaints about it dieing (again at low miles) but had dismissed as the transmission seemed to be the only recurring theme. But there you have it, ceritified preowned vehicle with 33k miles dies on test drive. Hope this helps.
