Cameron Groezinger Fitzpatrick, 19, died on Friday of a peanut allergy after eating a cookie offered to him by a friend who didn't realize it contained peanut oil or peanut butter. Fitzpatrick's parents said they do not blame the friend. "It just was given to them and they thought it was safe to have it. He inquired a few times: do you think it's alright to eat it? You don't smell peanut butter or anything. But somebody who doesn't have nut allergies wouldn't necessarily know," Robin Fitzpatrick said. Fitzpatrick was a freshman at Bryant University and had just made the dean's list. His stepfather, Marc Fitzpatrick, said family and friends are shocked. "He ate peanut oil and it took his life. I shoved peanut butter down my throat like it's nothing. It's so amazing that it can do that to somebody," he said. Fitzpatrick was at home when he began showing symptoms. "Within the half hour after that I watched my son suffer awful, awful struggling to breathe and begging for help," Robin Fitzpatrick said.
