6 police killed in Pakistan attack

Militants in Pakistan have killed at least six policemen, including a senior officer. Twelve others were wounded in the overnight attack. A police officer says the attack, near the northwestern city of Peshawar, started late on Sunday night. It triggered a gun battle that lasted for several hours. The militants were armed with heavy machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades, hand grenades and assault rifles. Officials said the militants burned the police station and four police vehicles before they escaped. The number of casualties on the militant side is not known. No group has claimed responsibility.
