Chandler Williams, Arena Football League player, dies during flag football game - Yahoo! Sports (blog)

Chandler Williams in 2011. (Getty Images)Tough news out of the Arena Football League, as player Chandler Williams died Sunday while playing in a flag football tournament.

Williams, who was 27, had played for several NFL teams. He had been drafted in the seventh round by the Minnesota Vikings in 2007. He also played for the Miami Dolphins, Atlanta Falcons and Kansas City Chiefs.

"We are shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of Chandler," Tampa Bay Storm team president Derrick Brooks said in a statement. "Our heart and prayers go out to his fiancée Vanitia Harrigan, daughter Tori Williams and the rest of his family."

Williams was a promising talent in the AFL; he caught 83 passes for 996 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2012. His 23-yard kickoff return average led the league. He was the second player ever from Florida International University to be drafted in the NFL. He also spent time playing with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League.

No official cause of death has been released.
