One man was killed and at least seven other people wounded in attacks across the city Friday night into Saturday morning, according to police.
The only homicide overnight happened about 5:40 a.m. Saturday in the 11600 block of South Wallace Street in the West Pullman neighborhood, police said.
Mark Woodson, 36, of the 5000 block of Virginia Street in Gary, Ind., was shot in the back while driving, causing him to crash into a building on Wallace, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Woodson was found slumped over the wheel and he was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:16 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office.
Woodson's vehicle came to rest on a porch.
The motive was not clear and an autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.
Seven others were shot but survived the attacks Friday night and Saturday morning, according to police.
A 30-year-old woman sustained multiple gunshot wounds about 6:55 a.m. in the 2900 block of North Ridgeway Avenue in the Logan Square neighborhood, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said. She's in critical condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Kubiak said.
About the same time, two others were shot in the 4400 block of West Monroe Street in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. One was shot in the foot and the other in the arm. Additional details weren't immediately available.
A 17-year-old boy was shot in the body multiple times in the Gage Park neighborhood about 8:40 p.m. Friday, authorities said.
The boy was in the 5600 block of South Sacramento Avenue when someone shot at him from inside a passing tan car, News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said. He was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition, Greer said. The shooting may be gang-related.
A 19-year-old man was shot just before midnight in the 8200 block of South Maryland Avenue in the East Chatham neighborhood. He's in good condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center, Greer said. Police said the man refused to identify three others he was standing with when someone shot at them.
He was standing on the sidwalk with a group of people when someone fired shots, News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
Two other men, 33 and 49, were shot near Marquette Boulevard and Bishop Street about 12:55 a.m. Saturday in the Englewood neighborhood.
Someone walked up to the 33-year-old, who was standing in the 6700 block of South Bishop Street, and opened fire before fleeing on foot. Police said the older man was struck while standing in his house.
Both were taken to Stroger Hospital, Greer said.
