Police: Man killed 3 in Pennsylvania, took daughter, 4, to Ohio - Los Angeles Times

A man in southern Pennsylvania shot and killed three people Friday and fled with his 4-year-old daughter before being arrested 250 miles away in Ohio, officials said Saturday.

Kevin Matthew Cleeves, 35, had been trying to arrange a time to pick up his daughter, but his wife didn't answer the phone, the Waynesboro, Pa., Record-Herald reported Saturday, citing court records.

Cleeves drove to Quincy Township, just north of the Maryland border, and began arguing with three people sitting in a car outside a house there, records said. He shot and killed all three people, then abducted his daughter, police say.

His relationship with the dead is not currently known.

Pennsylvania State Police police issued an AMBER Alert – information about  suspects and their vehicles that's sent to authorities and relayed to the public after a suspected child abduction. But the alert was canceled hours later after police found Cleeves in a small city near Youngstown, Ohio.

Austintown police found Cleeves' car in the parking lot of a hotel off I-80, where a cluster of businesses cater to interstate travelers. The car left the area, Austintown police said, and was stopped in the parking lot of a Weston Plaza hotel nearby. Cleeves was arrested. The girl was in the car and unhurt.

Cleeves was charged Saturday with three counts of criminal homicide and is waiting an extradition hearing.

The Pennsylvania State Police did not give information about the deaths, the Associated Press reported, including the names of the victims, but said more details would be released later Saturday.
