RIP Reynaldo Cuevas

Reynaldo Cuevas was 'a smart kid' The shot cost a mother her son, a girl her dad, when Cuevas was accidentally killed at the Nathalie Deli & Grocery, where he worked, by a cop responding to a robbery call. He's been working 24 hours a day at that bodega," says family friend Maricela Rodriguez. "All he did was work and come home. He never gave anyone any trouble. He wanted to join the Army because he wanted to do something with his life," said family friend Maricela Rodriguez. Cuevas, who had a 3-year-old daughter in the Dominican Republic, intended to follow in the footsteps of his sister, who enlisted in the Marine Corps earlier. "He had such a bright future," said Rodriguez, 41, of the Bronx, whose son was Cuevas' best friend. "He was looking forward to going into the Army. Instead, Cuevas' grieving mom, Magdalena, was planning to bury her boy's remains in the Dominican Republic, near his late father. He too was killed by gunfire two years ago, the fatal shots fired by a robber in Santo Domingo who was trying to steal the chains around his neck. "They were close, but he never spoke too much of his dad," Rodriguez said. "His father owned a grocery story right here" in the Bronx, said Cuevas' 27-year-old cousin, Jose Garcia. "He grew up working in a deli." Music: www.purple-planet.com
