TV9 - KSRTC bus crushes seven to death in Belagavi....! Seven persons, six of them women, were crushed to death and four others sustained injuries when a KSRTC bus ran over them on the Pune-Bangalore National Highway, at Sutagatti on the banks of the River Ghataprabha, about 26 km from here on Sunday. The dead are Jeejabai Maruti Shindhe (45), Nanda Duddu Patil (40), Yamuna Madhu Modgekar (26), Akkatai Kallappa Modgekar (37), Anasuya Nagu Gadekar (30), Laxmi Babu Patil (45) and Kallappa Sidrai Patil (48). They were among the 50 people from Nilaji on the outskirts of the city, who were on their way to Pandharapur in Maharashtra on foot as part of a 'dindi', a religious ritual. The women and Kallappa, who walked on ahead of others, sat on the roadside waiting for the rest, when the bus bound for Chikodi from Belgaum ran over them. They were killed on the spot while Somanath Laxman Pawar, Ningappa Bharma Patil, Manohar Nitturkar and Babu Mukund sustained severe injuries. The injured have been admitted to KLES Dr Prabhakar Kore Hospital and one of the injured is said to be in a critical condition. Yamakanmardi police have registered a case and the local MLA, Satish Jarkiholi, announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25000 each to the kin of the victims. Belgaum-Rural MLA Sanjay Patil also visited the spot.
