On July 8th 2010, it was the first time in California years of history, that a police officer, Johannes Mehserle, was arrested, charged, found guilty, and sent to jail for killing a Black Man while on duty. The verdict by the jury was historical for an on duty shooting by a police officer. Although the gun enhancement charge was later tossed out by the Judge admission of his mistake in the instruction to the jury, it must be remembered that the jury verdicts was historical. Since the murder of Oscar Grant on January 1, 2009, there have been over 10+ police murders in Northern California alone. None of these 10+ police officers, as of this writing, has been charges for anything, specifically, murder charges by the District Attorney Office. Why? Why have no charges been filed? Understanding the historical aspect of how the District Attorney office was forced to file charges in the Oscar Grant murder is of extreme importance to the future of police officers being charged for the murders they commit and these following families receiving the JUSTICE they deserve.
