Syria Children 'Killed By Cluster Bomb'.

Syrian rebels claim a cluster bomb dropped from a regime fighter jet killed 10 children as they played outdoors in a village near Damascus. The youngsters, all under 15, had gone outside during a lull in fighting in Deir al Asafir, eight miles east of the capital, when a single fighter jet dropped ordnance. Video footage taken by activists showed the bloodied bodies of children lying in the street as a sobbing woman picked one of them up. Locals claimed to have found 70 "bomblets" - smaller munitions forming a cluster bomb which are held inside a container and spread over a wider area. Abu Kassem, an activist in the village, said: "None of those killed were older than 15 years old. "There are two women among 15 people wounded, mostly hit as they were inside the courtyards of their houses. "There were no fighters inside Deir al Asafir when the bombing occurred. This was indiscriminate bombing." The weapons are banned under a 2010 UN treaty, but Syria is one of several countries - including the US - not to have signed it. President Bashar al Assad's regime claims it has not used cluster bomb munitions and does not own any. But a Sky News investigation in northern Syria found evidence they were being used. A UN political affairs chief also told the Security Council of "credible" reports that Assad forces had used the weapons. The Syrian army has denied a Human Rights Watch report, issued in October, which stated Assad's forces have used cluster bombs.
