Australian sprinter Daniel Batman has been killed in a car crash southeast of Darwin. Police say the 31-year-old Canberra man died sometime after midnight CST on Monday when his car rolled in Marrakai. 'Although we're still in the early stages of the investigation, it appears as though the man was travelling east on the Arnhem Highway in a Holden Commodore when the vehicle left the road, crashed into a culvert and landed 10 metres off the road,' Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Worrall said in a statement. Detectives are not sure what caused the athlete's car to leave the road but say they believe speed and alcohol could be factors in the crash. The crash site was discovered about 7am on Tuesday by a passing motorist and the highway was closed for several hours as investigators worked at the scene. Batman represented Australia as a sprinter at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He had a daughter with Olympic gold medallist Nova Peris. | From: NewsLlVE Views: 13 0 ratings | |
