The 36-year-old Briton, whose name has been withheld by police until his relatives in Britain have been told of his death, died when the taxi he was in was hit by the alleged stolen car. The tourist and the 28-year-old cab driver were killed in the crash as the taxi was making its way into Perth at 2am after the tourist's plane had landed at the city's airport. After police earlier tried to stop the vehicle, the chase was aborted. A police helicopter was covertly monitoring the vehicle as it crashed into the taxi. The 4x4 driver was taken to hospital with leg injuries. The passenger had only been in Australia for about an hour and was making his way into the city when it is alleged the stolen vehicle ran a red light. "I want to emphasise that there is no evidence at this time to suggest the vehicle was being pursued at the time of the crash," Assistant Commissioner Gary Budge told reporters.
