Teen killed, 9 others wounded across city - Chicago Tribune

A male teenager was killed and nine others wounded in shootings across the city this evening, mostly in the South Side.

The younger of two teens shot in the 6300 block of South Rhodes before 9:30 p.m. died, according to authorities. Both teens were in their mid-to-late teens, fire department officials said.

The younger teen died after being taken in ""extremely critical" condition with a wound to the chest to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. The other teen, a year or two older, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. Responding paramedics found both of them in the street.

The boy was the fourth person killed since Friday night - a 73-year-old man sitting on a stoop with a friend, a 34-year-old man getting ready to celebrate his brother's birthday, and a 20-year-old woman in a "domestic" incident.

A male was shot in the abdomen on the Northwest Side a few minutes later, authorities said. The shooting occurred at about 9:40 p.m. on the 3500 block of North Lawndale Avenue, Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said. The male sustained a graze wound and was in good condition, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford.

Shortly after, about 10 p.m, a 48-year-old man was shot in the hand on the 6600 block of South Wood Street, Greer said.  The victim was reported to be in good condition at Holy Cross Hospital.

A man was shot in the hip at about 11:45 p.m. in the West Pullman neighborhood, police said. The shooting took place on the 12400 block of South Lowe Avenue, Greer said. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, and his condition was not yet known.

At 8:35 p.m. a 20-year-old man was shot in the shoulder on the 9100 block of South Ashland Avenue, fire officials said. The man was taken in good condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center, fire officials said.

At 8:11 p.m. a 34-year-old man was injured after being shot on the 8200 block of South Houston Avenue, police said. The man sustained three gunshot wounds to his leg and his condition had stabilized, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, fire officials said.

At about 7:55 p.m., a 26-year-old man was shot on the 5700 block of South Princeton Avenue, O'Brien said. The man sustained a gunshot wound to his back and was taken in serious condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

Just before 7 p.m. a 20-year-old man was shot in the 10600 block of South Wabash Avenue, said O'Brien. The man sustained four gunshot wounds, three to his back and a fourth to his buttocks, O'Brien said. The man was dropped off by someone to Little Company of Mary Hospital and was transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center where he was in critical condition, O'Brien said.

The first shooting of the evening happened at about 5:46 p.m. on the 6100 block of South Ashland Avenue, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien. The victim was a man in his 30s who sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen, said O'Brien. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition, police said.
