NHK World News ---- Nippon Hōsō Kyōkai Description -- Tokyo students have held a memorial for Japanese freelance reporter Mika Yamamoto. She was killed while working in Syria in August. The students organized the meeting on Wednesday at Waseda University. Yamamoto lectured in journalism there for the past 4 years. The event began with a moment of silence. The students then showed a film featuring interviews with her family members. Her father Koji Yamamoto recalled his daughter as kind, strong willed and straightforward. He says she continued to report from warzones despite many difficulties. Yamamoto's friends, including journalists and writers, then spoke about her. They said she had a strong belief that people were waiting for her reports. They hoped her messages would continue to speak to society. One of the students said she wants to follow Yamamoto's strong convictions and self-imposed mission to work hard.
