A Greencastle woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 on Thursday.
Ayron P. Metcalf, 18, was identified as the victim of the crash, according to Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner.
The crash occurred in the area of the 2.5 mile marker between South Exit 3 US 11 in Antrim Township and South Maryland State Line at 10:55 a.m., police said.
Police say a 1997 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Arthur Whipple, 58, of Kane and Metcalf's vehicle were heading south when Metcalf attempted to pass the tractor-trailer in the left lane and contact was made between the two vehicles. After the initial contact, she lost control and went across the median into the north lane and was hit by a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by Ryan Shannon, 26, of Schnecksville.
Metcalf was pronounced dead at 12:20 p.m. on the scene by Conner and an autopsy is pending today to determine the cause of death.
Police say Shannon suffered minor injuries and Whipple was not injured in the incident.
PennDOT closed all lanes of the interstate, which was closed until around 4:30 p.m.
