www.ctvvancouverisland.ca http LAKE COWICHAN -- A 52-year-old Duncan man has been identified as the victim in a horrifying accident near Lake Cowichan. Gregory Howlett died after a rock smashed through the windshield of his pickup truck on Highway 18. Police say it was a freak accident. The rock fell from a passing logging truck and then bounced up off the road and into his windshield. The logging truck did not stop, and RCMP officers say it is likely the driver never even realized something had happened. Today RCMP officers stopped nearly 100 logging trucks on Highway 18 in an attempt to gather some information. Mounties were not able to decipher who the driver was or even which company he or she drove for, but do say they acquired some important information.
