NHK World News ---- About 30 people, including a Sudanese government minister, were killed when their plane crashed into a mountainous area in Southern Sudan on Sunday. The plane left the capital city of Khartoum, heading for South Kordofan. Local media reports say all of the passengers were killed, including the country's Guidance and Endowments Minister Ghazi al-Sadiq, and other politicians. They were flying to South Kordofan to attend a ceremony to mark the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. South Kordofan lies on the border with South Sudan, which gained its independence from Sudan in July of last year. Anti-Sudanese forces are active in the region, but they deny any connection with the accident. The crash occurred while the plane was landing in heavy rainfall. The Sudanese government suspects the plane went down due to the harsh weather and has begun an investigation. Aug. 19, 2012 - Updated 20:36 UTC (05:36 JST) | From: NHKReloaded Views: 2 0 ratings | |
