| Sunday, a two-year-old boy fell into the African painted dogs exhibit at the Pittsburgh Zoo and was pronounced dead at the scene; the boy's mother picked him up and placed him on top of the railing at the exhibit so that he could have a better view of the African painted dogs and almost immediately fell 11-14 feet into the exhibit and was attacked by 11 dogs. The Pittsburgh police reported that the incident happened at approximately 11:45 am Sunday and they were unsure if he died from the fall or the dogs. Authorities at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium responded within a few minutes and were able to call off the dogs and one aggressive dog was shot and killed. A spokesman for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums told the Associated Press that they could not remember any child's death in the last 40 years at any accredited Zoo in the nation. The Pittsburgh Zoo had its 5-year review in September and passed. The name of the mom has not been released, but police described her as a 34-year-old and a resident of Pleasant Hills, PA. The father of the boy arrived just after the incident occurred. The parents were received grief counseling Sunday, and the zoo was closed for the rest of the day. The African painted dogs weigh approximately 37 to 80 pounds and are endangered. | From: ViralNewsMedia Views: 0 ![]() 0 ratings | |
